It’s time to renew your garden plot for 2026! Next year’s plots are now available for current plot renters. Renew yours today to ensure you’ll be growing in the Garden next summer. Community Garden Plots will open to the public beginning in December. Plots are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. If you are a returning plot renter you will be assigned the same garden plot unless otherwise requested.
Reserve your plot today! Plots are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. If you are a returning plot renter you will be assigned the same garden plot unless otherwise requested. The standard plot is approximately 4’ by 16’.
Help a neighbor grow! Your sponsorship provides one full garden plot for a community member who otherwise couldn’t afford to participate this season.
Each community gardener commits to a minimum of eight hours of volunteer service to help maintain the common areas. No time to complete these hours? No problem, purchase a “Volunteer Buyout” for $160.
It takes a garden to grow food — and a community to grow a garden.
Join our Garden community when you rent a plot from Summit County’s only community garden! Gardening at high altitude has its challenges, but so many rewards, especially when you are in community with other growers. While you look forward to fresh flowers, vegetables, and herbs, you learn from other gardeners and share your own tips, make new friends, connect with nature, and participate in garden events. Our Garden staff is there to support you.
Gardening Organically
Summit Community Gardens is committed to organic gardening and requires the same from our gardeners. The use of synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides is not allowed. A garden plot is a commitment of time and constant effort. You should expect to spend two-three hours a week during the season.
Reserving and Renewing Your Garden Plot
Assignment of garden plots is first-come, first served. The standard plot will be approximately 4’ by 16’.
Community gardeners must volunteer a minimum of eight hours each season in addition to the time you spend in your own plot. If you cannot make this commitment, you can purchase a “Volunteer Buyout!”
Gardeners who maintain their plots, volunteer, and abide by community norms may renew their same plot for the following season.
Garden Plot Preparation and Maintenance
Our goal is to create a space for all to garden together in our beautiful Garden landscape. Look for the 2026 Garden Handbook next spring for important dates and deadlines, water and compost news, and of course - great tips from our Garden Staff.
Planting deadline: Plots should be ready for planting by the end of this week. This includes removal of weeds and other plant matter, working the soil with a broadfork (ask Garden Manager for more info) and adding soil amendments, sowing and transplanting, and more.
If there is no activity in your plot by mid-June, an email notice will be sent out to check in with you.
If there is no activity in your plot by early July, we will unfortunately have to pass the plot to the next person on the waitlist. Plot rental fees will not be refunded in this situation.
If any plot is unmaintained for two weeks or more, SCG-EATS may reabsorb the plot and pass it on to the waitlist. We will send an email notice prior to reassigning the plot.
