Part-Time Education Program Assistant

Summit Community Gardens - EATS (SCG-EATS) seeks an educator to lead our seed-to-soil educational programs with youth. Our programs blend hands-on gardening, cooking, nutrition and sustainability for Pre-K to 9th graders in local schools. This position is an hourly position for 7-10 hours a week, mainly on Fridays (with flexible hours for shopping and prep), from October to December 2025. There is the possibility of moving into a staff position and increased hours for the right candidate. Training provided. This position reports to the Executive Director.

Who We Are

SCG-EATS is a non-profit organization located in Park City, UT with a mission to gather, learn, grow and build community through food. We believe that everyone should have access to healthy food and that connecting children to where food comes from through cooking and gardening means they are more likely to have lifelong healthy eating habits.

What We Do

We operate Summit County’s only community garden and engage in school and community-based seed-to-plate-to-soil education programs. During the school year, we lead school-based programs for 1800 children in Summit and Wasatch counties. Our Garden consists of 134 community plots and a large demonstration garden where we grow food for community members experiencing food insecurity. Our Garden is also the site of summer camp, after school programs, and dinners with local chefs. 


What You Will Do

Implement education programs

  • Lead or assist SCG-EATS cooking and gardening classes in school classrooms

  • Manage groups of 20-25 students using positive behavioral management practices

  • Prepare for classes (i.e. grocery shopping and taking inventory)

  • Assist in managing volunteers in schools and garden

To Be Successful, You Have

  • Experience working with children in an educational, enrichment, and/or outdoor setting

  • Comfort with cooking, food preparation, and gardening

  • Strong organizational skills and reliability

  • Ability to create an encouraging and fun environment for students

  • Experience in nutrition, food system or hands-on learning a plus

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Ability to  build strong, collaborative relationships with members of our team

  • A proven track record of working independently

  • Ability to pass a criminal background check 

  • A valid driver’s license, proof of insurance and reliable car (Personal vehicles will be used for transportation to and from schools in Summit and Wasatch counties. Mileage will be reimbursed according to IRS guidelines.)

  • A current food handler’s permit, or ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire

  • A current CPR/First Aid permit, or ability to obtain one 

  • The ability to find points of connection with diverse groups of people,  a positive attitude, and asset-based mindset

  • A recognition of the ways that race and other identities impact the communities we serve and can identify when there is a decision, policy, or practice that may have disparate impacts

A Big Plus If You

  • Speak Spanish

  • Have experience with non-profits and/or volunteers

If You Were Here Right Now, You Would

  • Shop for ingredients for this week’s preK and elementary classes

  • Help to ensure information about the classes we teach are reported correctly

  • Develop a pesto recipe for our middle school class next week

  • Lead three 30-minute sessions for K and 1st, 2nd and 3rd, and 4th and 5th graders

This position is on-site at schools, with some ability to work occasional remote hours. A car and driver’s license are required, as is the ability to lift 40 pounds. The part-time educator is an hourly, non-exempt, position, working 7-10 hours a week from October to mid-December. Hourly range $20-22/hour, depending on experience.
